You can have a relationship with Jesus
Sin has broken our relationship with God and we are condemned to eternal death. But because He loves us, God sent Jesus to pay the penalty of our sins by His death on the cross. Jesus’ death and resurrection make a way possible for us to have a relationship with God and after this physical life to live eternally with Him. This eternal life is a free gift of God’s grace. However, it does not come to every person automatically:
We must accept this gift.
But, how do we do this?
- You must admit you are a sinner. You must confess this to God and repent, turning from your sin to God. See Acts 3:19.
- You must believe that Jesus is God’s Son and trust Him as the Savior that paid for your sins on the cross. See John 20:31.
- You must believe that Jesus was resurrected and confess Him as Lord of your life. See Romans 10:9-10.
“Believe” means to “have faith in; to put trust in.” Believing in Jesus is more than just intellectual acknowledgment. It means you turn your life over to His control and make Jesus your Lord.
Making Jesus your “Lord” means that you give up running your own life. See Galatians 2:20. It means that just like Jesus died on the cross, you willingly “die” or give up any rights to your own life. You die to your old identity, including all your old values and practices. You turn your life over to Christ and let Him have control. You allow Him to reshape your life and your identity. When you do this, not just intellectually, but with your whole heart, then the Holy Spirit comes into your life, giving you spiritual rebirth. Jesus now has control of your life, living out His purposes through you. His purposes for your new life include good works as you obediently follow His direction. See Ephesians 2:10.
This is what it means to be a Christian. Your spirit, once dead in sin, has been bought back to life by the blood of Christ. Have you accepted this gift and given your life to Him? If not, why not?
If you desire to become a Christian, to commit your life to Christ, you can do that right now. Just express your commitment to God through a simple heartfelt prayer of faith.
Sample prayer:
Lord, I know that I am a sinner. I believe that Jesus is your Son who willing died to pay for my sins. I accept Jesus into my life as my Savior and Lord. Please forgive my sin and give me eternal life. Help me to now live my life for you. Thank you God! Amen
If you have given your life to Jesus please tell a Christian friend and ask them to help you get started in your new life. It would also be a blessing to me if you let me know about your decision.
